Dry smarter: Save energy with a high-efficiency electric clothes dryer

Clothes dryers can be among the most energy-hungry appliances in our homes. But modern, high-efficiency electric dryers, including heat pump models, can help families save on energy bills while keeping clothes in great shape.

Among electric options, heat pump dryers are the most efficient. They work by recycling hot air instead of venting it outside.

An ENERGY STAR-certified heat pump dryer uses 70% less energy compared to conventional dryers. They also run at lower temperatures, which is gentler on your clothes and extends their lifespan. These heat pump dryers could save you more than $500 in electricity costs over the life of the product, without sacrificing convenience or performance.

Thanks to federal provisions from the Inflation Reduction Act, low-income to moderate-income Nevada residents will soon get access to Home Energy Rebates, which will provide discounts on heat pump clothes dryers.

NV Energy also provides its customers with discounts on heat pump and electric clothes dryers and, for older and qualifying electric dryers, the company may cover 100% of the cost of a heat pump clothes dryer.

How does a heat pump clothes dryer work?

Heat pump dryers recirculate air within a closed system. Unlike traditional dryers, which vent hot, moist air outside, heat pump dryers recycle air, extracting moisture from clothes and then reheating the air for continued drying.

How to use the electrification rebate?

The rebate for electric or heat pump clothes dryers and other appliances will be calculated based on household income and the total cost of the purchase or contractor invoice. Instead of receiving cash, the rebate is applied at the time of the purchase, reducing the amount you owe at checkout or on the contractor’s bill.
